Buy a treadmill – gentle on joints & efficient
Treadmills enable predictable, weather-independent training at home – from walking to interval training. Key criteria are cushioning and running surface (depending on height and speed), motor power and incline range as well as console/apps. Also discover compact options like the Walking Pad for the office & living room or flexible 2-in-1 treadmills with foldable handrail/desk function.
Whether an electric treadmill for daily training, a foldable home treadmill for small spaces, or an incline treadmill for hill workouts: all common design types are covered. Those looking for a high incline will find it in the T23 Pro Climb with up to 42 percent – alongside a long running surface measuring 140 × 48 cm.

Buying guide
Cushioning & running surface
Cushioning zones reduce impact loads. The required running surface depends on height and speed: At higher speeds or for taller users, longer and wider decks provide extra margin and safety.
Motor, speed & incline
Continuous motor output should match your training goals. Incline profiles enable uphill runs and varied intervals.
Console & Apps
From LED displays to touchscreens with Wi-Fi: clear workout metrics (time, distance, pace/speed, HR) are essential, along with – depending on the model – programs, app compatibility, or entertainment features.
Space & Handling
Pay attention to setup dimensions, folded dimensions if applicable, and transport rollers. Also check maximum user weight and frame stability. For small rooms, Walking Pads are ideal; if you want to combine work & walk, 2-in-1 treadmills are a great choice.

Suitable for beginners?
For beginners, top speed isn't what matters most; it's whether the machine fits the apartment and gets used regularly. Two approaches have proven effective:
- Walk instead of run. The Walking Pad T25 (from €209) is only 12 cm high and requires 121.7 × 56 cm of space. Up to 6 km/h and 5 % incline – completely sufficient for walking and incline walking.
- Keep both options open. The 2in1 Walk & Run T21 (€418) weighs 35 kg, measures 151 × 81 × 135 cm, and is foldable – walking and light running in one machine.
What getting started specifically looks like can be found in our running plan for beginners: three sessions per week, eight weeks from walking to continuous running. The complete plan is available for free as a PDF.
How much space do you really need?
Our treadmills range between 121.7 × 56 cm (Walking Pad) and 208 × 98 cm (Studio Pro T22). Six of the twelve models are foldable. Allow an extra half meter of clearance behind the treadmill – not for technical reasons, but for safety.
In practice, space-saving means: foldable or flat. A traditional treadmill stays where it is; a walking pad disappears under the couch. If you want to store it away between workouts, you're choosing the design type, not just a model.
How loud is a treadmill in an apartment?
For the Studio Pro T22, we measured 48 to 53 dB – about the level of a quiet conversation. The disruptive part isn't the motor, however, but the footsteps transmitted through the frame into the floor. Therefore, a floor protection mat isn't an extra, but an essential part of the setup. FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
How large should the running surface be?
For walking/light jogging, shorter decks are sufficient; at higher speeds/body height, longer and wider decks provide more margin. Choose based on body height and training goal.
How much HP do I need?
For walking/light runs, lower continuous power is sufficient; ambitious running benefits from more powerful drives. What matters most is the continuous output, not just peak power.
Foldable or studio frame?
Foldable models save space (e.g., T16), studio equipment offers maximum stability and comfort (e.g., T22). Check setup/folded dimensions and transport rollers.
Which apps are compatible?
Depending on the model: e.g., T23/T16/T18 with Kinomap (partially with automatic incline/resistance control); T22 focuses on Android console/Wi-Fi entertainment according to features.
Are there particularly small solutions for the home office?
Yes, a Walking Pad fits under many desks. For work & walk, 2-in-1 treadmills are also recommended.
Treadmill or cross trainer – which is better?
A treadmill is closer to everyday life: walking and running are natural movements, and at equal exertion, calorie burn is usually slightly higher. A cross trainer, on the other hand, is gentler on the joints and incorporates the upper body. Read more in the guide Cross Trainer vs. Treadmill: Which is better?
Can you lose weight with a treadmill?
Yes. Even brisk walking reliably burns calories – a walking pad in the home office is completely sufficient to get started. Consistency and diet are key; the device provides predictable, weather-independent exercise.
How loud is a treadmill in an apartment?
The motor and cushioning are crucial: A quiet DC motor and a multi-layer cushioned running surface keep running and motor noise low. The compact walking pads are the quietest. A floor protection mat additionally reduces vibrations – important in rented apartments and upper floors.
What are the disadvantages of a treadmill?
It requires more floor space than most other cardio equipment, and you should consider the ceiling height – you stand a few centimeters higher on the machine. Motor and footstep noise are present, even if modern devices run quietly. If you are looking for maximum joint protection, a cross trainer or ergometer is even gentler.
