The days are finally getting longer again, winter is slowly taking its leave. You might have already spent a morning wrapped in a thicker jacket or blanket, enjoying your morning coffee on the balcony or terrace for an hour and soaking up the warm rays of the early sun. Now if only that sluggish fatigue from the past winter months would disappear. How do we regain more energy and strength, can we actively contribute to feeling fitter and more alert, and start spring feeling more energized? Today we're providing you with a few tricks and tips that you can try out.
Soak up the light and get moving
Soaking up daylight and getting exercise are two key factors to regain your energy and strength in spring. During the winter months, we often stay indoors and don't get enough daylight. This can lead to fatigue and sluggishness. That's why it's important to be outside as much as possible and soak up sunlight. Just 20 minutes a day is enough to supply the body with sufficient vitamin D and boost your well-being. Move regularly, whether through walks, cycling, or a short workout. Because exercise promotes blood circulation and boosts your metabolism, which can have a positive impact on your physical and mental health.
Prioritize rest periods and get enough sleep
That might sound a bit strange at first. But anyone who knows how important rest periods and adequate sleep are quickly realizes that the body needs sufficient recovery phases in the form of good, restful sleep. Without it, we don't feel truly fit; instead, we drag ourselves through the day feeling exhausted. In other words, anything but fit. Your body takes care of many essential metabolic processes while you sleep. Cells regenerate or repair themselves, hormonal processes take place, and our brain sorts through the impressions of the past day to make room for new ones. So make sure you get sufficient, high-quality sleep.
Spring into fitness with a healthy diet
A healthy diet rich in vegetables and fruit is certainly important all year round—it isn't just limited to spring. But especially during the transition from winter to spring, our body practically craves fresh ingredients. Green vegetables like broccoli or Brussels sprouts, homemade vegetable soups or stews, or finally a colorful salad with crunchy ingredients and fresh herbs: colorful and fresh vegetables and fruit, light fish or poultry add plenty of vitamins and other beneficial nutrients to our menu. When the first rays of sunshine come out, even oranges taste a bit like summer. Add light herbal teas and plenty of water, and you're already doing a lot to start spring feeling fitter.
Walking and outdoor exercise
In danger of slipping into an afternoon energy slump after lunch? Then grab your jacket and go for a quick walk around the block. Of course, it's nicer when the sun is shining, but even in less than dreamy weather, you can easily go for a short walk. You'll see: daylight, fresh air, and the occasional early signs of spring like blooming apple trees can instantly lift your mood. Plus, you're doing something good for your immune system. Once springlike days become more frequent, head outside for a jog, a bike ride, or to meet up with your workout buddies in the park.
Indoor exercise as an alternative
If the weather throws a wrench in your plans – then switch to a workout session at home. Maybe you have a rowing machine or a treadmill at home? Then it's time to drag it out of the corner again. Any form of exercise helps our body avoid getting stuck in spring fatigue. Or go for a swim at the indoor pool. If you like climbing, make a date with your climbing buddy at the bouldering gym. Even a round of indoor mini-golf with family or friends can help. Social contact with others brings a bit of positivity into our emotional world. So surround yourself with people who are good for you, who do things with you, or who can relax with you.
Plan a wellness day or treat yourself to something nice
Your immune system will thank you: If you are a sauna fan, treat yourself to a wellness day at a thermal bath or sauna complex. Alone or with your best friend. You'll see, as soon as we treat ourselves to something nice and consciously take time for a whole day just for ourselves and our own body, it not only brings us relaxation, but ideally also gives us a boost of energy for the coming days or weeks. So go ahead and treat yourself to a massage because maybe your shoulders are tense from computer work. Or relax with one or two fragrant sauna infusions.
Simple but effective: Hiking and cycling
Is the weather supposed to be good this weekend? You could plan a short hiking trip with friends or your partner. It doesn't even have to be far: pick a nice nature reserve nearby or visit one of the slag heaps if you live in the Ruhr region. This not only trains your leg muscles, but generally gets you moving and out into nature. Reward yourself with a final cafe visit over a warm tea or cappuccino. The simplest things are often the best: a short bike ride during the first good weather to the nearest lake or along a scenic bike trail, a nice hiking tour with friends. Nothing crazy, but we wake up ourselves and our bodies a bit, make them more resilient, and start spring feeling fitter.
